Jing Liu is a Professor of Technical Institute of Physics and Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Science (CAS) and Department of Biomedical Engineering in Tsinghua University (THU). He received his double bachelor’s degrees (B.E. in Power Engineering and Control and B.S. in Physics) in 1992, and Ph.D. in Thermal Science with specialty on bioengineering in 1996, all from THU. He then served as an assistant professor there, a postdoctoral research associate at Purdue University, and a senior visiting scholar at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He has been a professor of CAS since July 1999 and a professor of THU since August 2008.
Dr. Liu works intensively at the interdisciplinary areas among bioheat transfer, liquid metal, and biomedical devices. As a teacher, he tried his best to contribute to the teaching, research, design and development of a group of newly emerging frontiers in science and engineering through nine popular book publications. Many of them have been widely adopted as textbooks throughout China or introduced overseas. Particularly, Dr. Liu’s book “Micro/Nano Scale Heat Transfer”, first appeared in 2001, has been reprinted five times over the years. Apart from that, he has published seventeen invited book chapters, over four hundred peer reviewed journal papers and holds more than one hundred granted invention patents. Dr. Liu’s researches were frequently featured by world renowned media like: New Scientist, MIT Technology Review, Nature, Nature Materials, Science News, IEEE Spectrum, Physics Today, Newsweek, Daily Mail, Discovery, Chemistry World, National Geographic Daily News, The Washington Post, and Fox News etc.Dr. Liu received The William Begell Medal, one of the world highest awards in thermal science which was issued to only an individual every four years; He is also a recipient of 2010-2011 Best Paper of the Year Award from ASME Journal of Electronic Packaging, the 2003 National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars of China, National Science and Technology Award for Chinese Young Scientist, Ten Major Scientific and Technological Progress News in China etc. He has graduated more than 50 Ph.D. or Master degree students and received five times highest teaching award from the CAS.
