Our research focuses on molecular epidemiology of neoplasia, including efforts to improve the biomathematic/statistical approaches in this area. Topics of research include multiplex assays, biorepository sciences, and bias secondary to collecting and processing tissues. New interests include genes controlling metastasis, characterizations of the molecules of the centriole, post-transcriptional control, exosomes and microRNA. Since 1983, we have provided North American investigators with human tissues to support their research via the Cooperative Human Tissue Network (CHTN) and the Pulmonary Hypertension Breakthrough Initiative (PHBI). In 1983 he introduced the use of quality control of the specific tissues provided for research and has been involved in database development. His expertise includes the effects of fixation and tissue processing on immunorecognition and other assays.
Dr. Grizzle is Associate Editor of Cancer Biomarkers and has published nearly 500 peer-reviewed manuscripts as well as 45 book chapters. He recently edited the book, Translational Pathology of Early Cancer (Eds. S. Srivastava, WE Grizzle), IOS Press BV, 2012.
In 2015, Dr. Grizzle received the ISBER Award for Outstanding Achievement in Biobanking. Dr. Grizzle and Ms. Katherine Sexton have been leading workshops on tissue biorepository design and operations since 1993.
